Dust in my hair and paint boogers

I've seen two christian movies in the past couple years in which I thought the acting was super weak.

Faith Like Potatoes and Fireproof.

I imagine the creators of the films might have wanted to have an all christian cast, or maybe they didn't have the budget to hire top notch actors.  I may be overly critical, but I was so distracted by the awfulness of the directing and acting that I couldn't even get past it and appreciate the story. . .which may have been good.

So my word to the Christian movie industry would be that if they really believe in the message in their films, they should scrape together the cash to hire real actors. . . who may or may not be Christ followers.

So this makes me wonder:  if a Christian movie maker used a secular talent pool to hire from, is it ethical for a Christian music maker (churches or bands) to hire musicians from a secular talent pool?  It seems like many Christian musicians don't feel a great call to creativity and new blood could bring a whole new level of excellence to anointed music.

Here's to bigger talent pools!

I'd love to hear comments and feedback so feel free to post thoughts below. . .

On another note: I am listening to a project recently finished up by a Christian musician who is bringing quite a bit of freshness and creativity into the Christian music scene.

It's clean

It's tasty

It's Castles In Air.

Shout out to my new friends Chris Picco and Taylor Haenny.  They are pictured above with Charlie Sheen who happened to be sitting in the same halloween store we were in. . .  Anyways, Castles In (the) Air turned out AMAZING!  Watchmen has been stuck in my head all day.

Love it!

  1. Just a very quick and something I would like to add to stir up the pot.

Here's a little something David did:

Kenaniah the head Levite was in charge of the singing; that was his responsibility because he was skillful at it.
    1 Chronicles 15:22

Kenaniah was in charge of the singing because he was good at it.... It doesn't say that he was incredibly spiritual.... it says that he was good at it.
Granted he was a Levite, so he spent a day or two at the temple. It is clear, however, that the author stresses Kenaniah's skills, not his spiritual state.

  2. interesting. . . I like it!
There is always a tension when recruiting between picking up a person because they are a good musician or because they are a true worshiper and live a Christlike life. . . a person with both is rare.
